As part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety in Balsham, on Monday 9th March from 7.30 to 8.30 am, seven volunteers counted vehicles moving in and out of Balsham and using Charterhouse Bridge. The map shows how many vehicles used each route in each direction, and shows quite clearly that there is a significant amount of traffic using the village as a through route. A list of the cars counted is also available. Although we were not monitoring speed during the session, the volunteers’ perception was that a large proportion of the traffic was travelling at excessive speeds.

The reason for this count was to see for ourselves the volume and behaviour of traffic in the village, especially at rush hour, in order to understand how we can make improvements to road safety – whether that is through road layout, signage, speed limit or other changes. If you have any comments or suggestions, please contact the Parish Council on 01223 894462 /

The Speedwatch team continues to monitor speed at regular intervals in various parts of the village, and the more volunteers we have on the team, the more often we can do this. If you have a couple of hours available once a month or so and are interested in joining the team, please contact Laura Cook on or 01223 660481.
