Balsham Bus Campaign 2019/20/21
It is recognised that Balsham suffers from public transport poverty. The Parish Council in October 2019 started a survey to find out if villagers use the bus service, how they use and if a better service was operating, would they use it.
270 villagers returned the survey with 300 signatures signing the petition.
This data was collated and presented to Lucy Frazer MP on the 6th March. This was then feed into the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA). Shortly after Covid-19 struck.
It was suggested to the Parish Council to write a proposal to be put forward to the Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
Following the election a new Major of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, the proposal was presented to Dr Johnson by Mrs Frazer.
September 2021
Following on from conversations with Mr Howarth the Bus Strategy Manager of the Cambridgeshire Peterborough Combined Authority, sadly, there will be no additional bus services for Balsham. Stagecoach had declined re-routing a 13 service through Balsham or increasing a 16a service.
There are plans for the future, one being Direct Responsive Transport which is currently being trialled in West Huntingdonshire for six months. This acts like a taxi style service where you can call on a bus to collect you from a bus stop. This allows services to alter their routes based on demand rather than a fixed route or timetable. See here for more information on DRT.
