Chocolat (12), starring Juliette Binoche and with Johnny Depp and Judy Dench amongst the cast, is based on the Joanne Harris novel.
Single mother and chocolatier Vianne Rocher (Juliette Binoche) and her young daughter arrive in a rural French town in the winter of 1959 and open an unusual chocolate shop in Lent that disrupts the moral fibre of the strictly Catholic townsfolk and the mayor Reynaud.
Her chocolate confections however win over the villagers and her own life is then transformed by the arrival of handsome Roux (Johnny Depp).
